Plantar fasciitis is the most common musculoskeletal problem that affects the foot. Plantar fasciitis, or more correctly plantar fasciocis is due to there being too much load in the plantar fascia beyond what the tissues can tolerate. The most common risk factors that overload the plantar fascia are higher activity levels, higher body weight, tight calf muscles and poor foot biomechanics. The treatment of plantar fasccitis is usually to deal with the inflammation (eg NSAIDs) reduce the load in the tissue (eg strapping or foot orthotics) and then increase the ability of the tissues to withstand the load.
